Loon Gulf is an Italian-owned company that owns 500+ acres on the undeveloped west side of the lake and the old golf course. They have already drawn up a preliminary proposal for the development of the golf course, and their extreme logging of the west side indicate that is only a matter of time before they attempt to subdivide and develop this land as well.
The proposed plans do not align with the purpose of the Adirondack Park: to preserve forests and wetlands, balance development, and manage private development while maintaining ecological integrity. Sixy new houses at Loon Lake could make it impossible for loons to live here.
The Loon Lake Community Association (LLCA), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, in conjunction with concerned home owners around the lake, has hired lawyers and consultants to ensure that Loon Gulf does not skirt the law and that the Adirondack Park Agency does its job and does not permit Loon Gulf to despoil or develop the land without oversight and regulation.
As of February 2026, we have an ongoing lawsuit before a judge in which we are arguing that Loon Gulf's 'forest management' is tantamount to illegal clearcutting, their roadbuilding is detrimental to the lake and the wetlands, & their development plans far exceed the protections enshrined in Adirondack Park Land.
We're almost at 2000 signatures! By law, the Adirondack Park Agency takes public comments into account when reviewing permit applications. Let's make our voices heard.
Submit your concerns directly to the APA. Don't forget to save your writing, as we are compiling a binder of public comments to give to the media/ put before a judge.
It's a marathon, not a sprint. Help us hire the advice and environmental consultation we need as we file legal motions, submit expert testimony and argue before a judge.
